1420 Maritime Collection

Our Maritime Collection Bourbons are all hand-made in small batches using traditional mash bills consisting of corn, rye, and barley or wheat and are aged in our distillery's New England maritime coastal climate, adjacent to, or in the case of our Finished at Sea Bourbon, on the Long Island Sound.

1420 Finished at Sea follows in the traditions of pre-prohibition bourbon makers who aged their whiskey on flatboats floating on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. Instead of flatboats on rivers, our spirit is aged and exposed to the elements on working boats plying the waters of the Long Island Sound.

The result? A full-bodied spirit that embodies our maritime environment while embracing the whiskey making traditions of old.

Our Finished at Sea aging process exposes these whiskeys to the constant – and sometimes extreme – shipboard rocking motion and briny, sea air conditions that are profoundly different than those found in traditional barrel storage warehouses.

The nose on this whiskey is surprisingly light and floral, suggestive of honeysuckle with hints of dried cherry.

Nose

Flavor

The palate has expected bourbon cues of vanilla, cinnamon, and honey.

Finish

The finish is more interesting with the nutty-flavor of milled oil seed.

Copps Island Oysters

In partnership with Copps Island Oysters, we further enhance the unique maritime character of our whiskeys by aging them in charred oak barrels stored within the holds of their working boats. These vessels, many of which were constructed locally and have been in service for nearly 100 years, set sail six days a week, 52 weeks a year, in good weather, and in bad.

We are excited to experience our first release. Be sure to sign up for our emails and follow us on social media to find out when it will be available.

Straight bourbon finished at sea

1420 Finished at Sea Straight Bourbon

1420 Finished at Sea bourbon follows in the traditions of pre-prohibition bourbon makers who aged their whiskey on flatboats floating on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. Instead of flatboats on rivers, our whiskey is aged and exposed to the elements on the Long Island Sound aboard oyster boats operated by Copps Island Oysters. The result? A full-bodied bourbon that embodies our maritime environment while embracing the whiskey making traditions of old.

The mash bill for this delicious spirit is comprised of 80% corn, 15% rye, and 5% malted barley.

1420 Harborside Straight Bourbon

1420 Harborside Straight Bourbon is aged adjacent to the historic harbor of South Norwalk, CT.

Like our Finished at Sea whiskey, our 1420 Harborside Straight Bourbon benefits from its maritime environment. Aged in barrels in warehouses overlooking the harbor, it absorbs the salty sea breeze and fluctuating temperatures, giving it a distinctive character.

The result is a full-bodied spirit that blends the rich traditions of whiskey-making with the maritime influences of South Norwalk. Our 1420 Harborside Straight Bourbon embodies our commitment to innovation and quality, offering an exceptional and memorable whiskey experience.

SoNo 1420 Single Barrel Finished at Sea is a whiskey in its own category. It is bourbonesque, as it should be. There are layers upon layers that are unexpected. I don’t believe you’ll find any other whiskey that comes close to SoNo 1420/BBN Special Reserve.
