All of our gins start with our gluten free, 100% corn neutral spirits and are vapor infused with a medley of botanicals, each specifically selected, not for their taste profiles as is typical for all other gins, but for their terpenes (aroma and taste molecules found in the essential oils of plants known to have medicinal properties) and how those terpenes affect the human body. We source these terpenes from a variety of plants including juniper berries, grains of paradise, orris root, angelica root and cannabis sativa (hemp) to name a few.

Skysail encourages the traditional juniper to play nicely with some of our favorite terpenes; we use alpha-pinene for its mint properties; limonene, like you’d find in chamomile, makes for a mellow note; myrcene offers up a lemongrass aroma; and a smidge of spilanthol offers a little extra spice. Let’s Talk Terpenes
Without even knowing it you may already be familiar with terpenes; just think of the calming properties of a chamomile tea or feeling invigorated when a lemon peel is expressed over a cocktail or grated into a recipe. Terpenes are just about everywhere in the plant world, and they are found in vegetables, fruits, herbs and spices too.
Our botanist friends simply refer to terpenes as the essential oils of plants. Makes sense; we all know how essential oils can lift a mood, or set a calm one. And when they exist together in the oil of a plant or flower it tells your body to react with a feeling like calm or invigoration.
Now this reaction may be different for everyone. Remember, we're all unique beings... But, while we can't promise you any specific experience, we can share with you the known properties of these terpenes we're utilizing in our gin.
